Cities worldwide are embracing the power of modern technology and giving their leaders the critical new role of combating the vast environmental and systemic challenges that the global pandemic has brought sharply into focus. The traditional one-size-fits-all approach to urban policy and planning is becoming increasingly obsolete.
To phase out the centralized-city model, input from cities’ inhabitants is necessary. The low turnout in the recent Dutch municipal council elections highlights the desire for other ways to elevate civic participation and engagement.
